RM of Barrier Valley’s story
The Rural Municipality of Barrier Valley No. 397 incorporated on October 29, 1917. It lies in the east-central part of Saskatchewan, and its council office is in the village of Archerwill. Until 1981 the office was in McKague.
In 1924 the RM named a new Canadian Pacific Railway siding "Archerwill." The name was made by combining parts of the names of councillors Archie Campbell and Ervie Hanson and secretary-treasurer William Pierce. The siding sits on the Wadena-to-Tisdale branch line.
Besides Archerwill, the RM includes the localities of Algrove, Dahlton, Lightwoods, McKague and Wallwort. Highways 35, 349, 652 and 773 connect them. A council and an appointed administrator run the municipality, meeting on the second Thursday of each month.
